Hans-Hermann Hoppe Canvas
“No, the state is anything but the result of a contract! No one with even just an ounce of common sense would agree to such a contract. I have a lot of contracts in my files, but nowhere is there one like this. The state is the result of aggressive force and subjugation. It has evolved without contractual foundation, just like a gang of protection racketeers. And concerning the struggle of all against all: that is a myth.”
Austrian school economist. Paleolibertarian anarcho-capitalist philosopher. A guy who just really, really hates the government. Hans-Hermann Hoppe is all of these things, and that’s why we like him.
If you only learn about Hoppe from leftists, you’ll hear about some kind of unhinged lunatic who doesn’t think the government should be able to force leftist policies on you against your own will. Fair enough. If your utopia can only come to fruition via generous application of force and coercion, then Hoppe just isn’t your guy.
But what if you believe that you should be able to truly own the things you own? That you shouldn’t be subjected to the will of a majority that hates you? That the government is not here to solve problems, but rather a system which perpetuates them? What if you refuse to let losers and criminals dictate what you do with your life? Well, in that case Hoppe very much is your guy.
